Wireless Adapter says it's working but does not detect any network

Hey I have a laptop that just got given to me and the internet is working through the Ethernet cable but is not through the wifi connection. I know that the router is working (I have my phone hooked up) I checked the drivers and updated them, uninstalled the adapter and let it be put back on its self.
