Sound stops playing after changing volume

Hi everyone, I have a rather odd problem... My sounds works fine, then as soon as I change the volume (either through the icon in my taskbar, through the volume control on a youtube video, or by the volume wheel on my headset), my sound crashes. It always makes my youtube vids throw an error and then stop making sound. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it? ...
