Laptop direct connect cable modem?

Hi, Need to connect laptop directly to cable modem (bypass router) to determine speed / performance. Have Static IP. Can someone point me in right direction so that I can connect laptop via Ethernet cable direct to cable modem? I know static IP, gateway, submask, primary secondary DNS -- just not sure how to configure laptop so that I can make the connection. Many thanks in advance!
