Aero Theme Disabled

Logged on today to find that my themes have changed to basic from aero by itself. System restore fixed the problem however every time I restart it changes back to basic. When I click troubleshooting>display aero desktop effects it says I need to upgrade the edition of windows. Why would I need to do this when it was working before? I have a genuine copy of windows. Any advice would be...
